WESTNILE: The joint security team of the police and the army arrested twenty host community members under the case file SD REF 05/04/01/2021 in Omugo Camp police Post over mob action resulting from the death of a national allegedly by the south Sudanese Woman.
On Monday 4th Jan 2021 at around 12 Noon, the police of Omugo camp police post received a report that one Ombokuru Karolina ( female adult in her 50s), a lugbara by tribe, a Ugandan national, resident of Ocia village, Ndaapi parish, Omugo subcounty, was poisoned to death by a Sudanese Refugee, ( one Jogo Grace) a resident of Ocia village, Ndaapi parish, Omugo subcounty- Terego district. This prompted the Ugandan nationals organize and raid the home of Jogo Grace at around 1630/c, destroyed her house, damaged her household items and looted other valuables. They got hold of Jogo Grace, beat her up but she was rescued by police that rushed her to Omugo camp health center but was pronounced dead on arrival. The police of Terego supported by UPDF soldiers commanded by DCIO Terego responded to the emergency call and managed to arrest 20 suspects armed with bows and arrows and pangas.
The Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Angucia confirms the incidence saying it’s criminal.
“Mob action doesn’t give room for investigation, the public is urged to deceased from such acts”.
Meanwhile the Regional Refugee Desk Officer Solomon Osakan says the situation has calmed down as the immediate response of the security officers has helped a lot.
“We are organizing to conduct community dialogue on the approaches to law between the refugees and the host communities”.
This is the second time the host communities have reiterated in a hazardous manner against the refugees in West Nile settlements. In August 2020, under Rhino camp settlement in Rigbo sub county Madi Okollo District Ten refugees were killed by mob action over the beating of a national whose cattle entered the crop field of a refugee leading to the arrest of sixty suspects who were later released on bond.
