News | The Northern Link UG | A 20-year-old man identified as Ronald Otim has been arrested in Amuru district for beating his 5-Year-Old niece over a 7,000 shillings debt her father had failed to pay.
Otim allegedly beat up his niece-Mercy Atimango and a neighbor identified as Banya Angelo, 55, tried blocking him from beating his brother Ouma Robert at around 6:00 pm on Thursday.
The resident of Oduro Paminyu sub-village in Pogo Sub County who used a log on his victims left the two with serious injuries on the head for Atimango and on the ribs for Banya.
The pair has now been hospitalized at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City while the suspect-Otim was by press time in custody at Pabbo Police Post.
Justin Acellam, the village chief of Oduro Paminyu confirmed the incident and said Atimango and Banya were badly injured with Banya unable to walk.
A police officer attached to Pabbo police post who declined to be named confirmed Otim’s arrest saying they will prefer a charge of assault against him.
Section 236 of the penal code act states that any person who commits assault occasioning actual bodily harm commits a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for five years.
