NEWS | THE NORTHERN LINK UG| Nebbi Municipal authorities have said the COVID-19 pandemic has put a hold upon their recently relaunched campaign dubbed ‘Keep Nebbi Municipality clean.’
The initiative was relaunched on 8th May 2021 as garbage collection and solid waste management had become one of the major problems of the town.
Odongo Emilio the Municipality environment officer, attributes the hold up of the move on the presidential directives and the ministry of health guidelines put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19.
We took off with the campaign successfully but because of the lockdown, we could not proceed with the programs as planned. Even if there’s been the partial lifting of the lockdown, Still community gathering outside the scheduled market are not open. In that regard, We can not continue with the Keep Nebbi Clean campaign initiative until further notice- Says Odongo Emilio
Emilio further says he is optimistic that, the Campaign will resume if the government relaxes some of the SOPS put in place. He says the casual laborers are doing their works to keep the town clean.
The Deputy Town clerk Nebbi Municipality, Drakuma Maliki says that the campaign was relaunched so that people can be responsible for the cleanliness of the Town.
It is very true that we started on good footing, one month after, we received the second lockdown which took us over 42 days. We this current situation changes then we shall resume the workplan. – Deakuma Maliki
He adds that the security personnel had kick-started the campaign very well but the 42 days lockdown became a bottleneck for another cluster to continue since the government does not allow social gatherings.
