West Niles’ most trending comic rapper, Monopoly is currently beaming with pride after his banger ‘Mari’ got noticed and nominated for the best regional song in the 2021 Hipipo music awards. This particular song ‘Mari’ that means ‘debt’ is a last year’s project that was widely received by the lugbara speaking community given its’ powerful message.
In this song, Monopoly addresses a common community challenge of debtors who do not pay their debts timely or never pay and yet borrow with ease. He (Monopoly representing the creditor in the song) therefore keeps demanding that the debtor either pays up or he confiscates his property! A bold act that many resorts to in case peaceful means fail.
Also nominated in the awards is a much anticipated West Nile act, Free Boy who has been turning the heads of many ever since his ‘Kwata esimu’ remix ft Winnie Nwagi that shot him up to the limelight and got him rubbing shoulders with the big dogs. He is in the category of the “Break through’ artist alongside equally tough opponents who have put on their best show such as Zex Bilangilangi, An Known, Zulitums, Pia pounds and others.
To note is that majority of these recognized awards in the past have hardly been involving entertainment acts from the West Nile region. Monopoly and Free Boy being noticed in this years’ Hipipo awards clearly shows progress and could pave way for much bigger prospects in the future.
