The upgrade of 5KM of roads of Jupanjau-Acil (1.8KM) and Atidu-Jagi road (3.2KM) in Thatha division, Nebbi Municipality has been initiated over the week.

The Municipal mayor Ngiriker Geoffrey informs this website that, his office is green about the amount the project may cost. He says the Ministry of Works and Transport notifies him that, the sum will be reflected in the contractor’s agreement soon.

The Municipal MP, Hon. Hasim Suleiman warns the contractors against shady works. Hasim Says the project is long overdue which was believed to kick-off in early July but it was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I submitted this request in the 10th parliament which elapsed before it was approved. Today am so happy that this project has finally reached this level and the contract has been signed.” Says Nebbi Municipality Mp. Hon Hashim Suleiman

“I therefore, Argue you the contractor to do a first-class work in order to save us funds” he added

Gerald Obalim the civil engineer from MoWT in his remarks, says the construction is allotted for a duration of only 6 months to finalize the project. He, however, implores the local leaders to have a dialogue with the dwellers because the ministry is not entitled to compensate anyone during the construction of such community Roads.

Mugisa Julius the director of Rukooge Enterprises Uganda Limited (The Company that is going to do the construction) says their challenge would be opening the drainage systems as people incline to extend difficulties to constructors over drainage in urban areas.

“We shall install about 40 lines of culverts therefore enough space for a water channel is needed.” Says Mugisa Obalim

The Woman MP for Nebbi District Hon. Acibu Agnes wants teamwork among the contractors, Leaders, and residents. She asks leaders to stop inciting shady works.

“One indication that shows the growth of Municipality owned area is a good road, we are really grateful and you as the contractor I believe and I pray that you cooperate with the leadership of this Municipality because experience has shown that most contractors tend to despise local people.” – Hon Acibu Agnes

“ Substandard work exposes residents to risk, Therefore, We need to see the value for money” – She added

The contract between the Ministry of Works and transport, Contractor, and Nebbi Municipality Council was signed at Nebbi District local government boardroom.
