Police in the greater West Nile region have commended the public for peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2021 general elections.
This comes at a time when the polling day to elect the President and Members of Parliament draws closer.
The Electoral Commission sets 14th January 2021 as a day for the polls.
Police Spokesperson for the greater West Nile region, SP Josephine Angucia applauds the public for respecting the guidelines issued for campaigns.
She says, failure to follow the guidelines results in election violence but this is not the case for West Nile so far.
“Campaigns are so far going on peacefully in the greater region of West Nile much as we have been hearing issues of riots in other parts of the country, in our region we have never heard any violence or any riot. Therefore, I really want to applaud our people of West Nile for ensuring that they participate in peaceful campaigns” Police Spokesperson.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Electoral Commission together with the Ministry of Health issued guidelines for candidates to follow during their campaigns. Among these includes organizing meetings limited to only 200 people with strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure of Covid-19.
The Spokesperson however urged candidates and their voters to continue following the guidelines to avoid clashes with the security officers who are the implementing body.
