SPORTS | THE NORTHERN LINK UG | The Uganda National Men’s Basketball team (Silverbacks) recorded their first win at the ongoing 2021 Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda.
Inspired by forward Ishmail Wainwright Uganda beat Cameroon 80-66 for the second victory at the Afrobasket tournament. Uganda had last won a game at the competition in 2015 when they beat Zimbabwe 72-62 in a classification game.
The Silverbacks lost their first game at the ongoing tourney 93-55 to five-time champions Senegal.
Wainwright and shooting guard Adam Seiko both put up astonishing performances as Uganda outclassed their opponents.
Wainwright scored 9 points, 12 rebounds, and managed 11 assists while Seiko who was making his second appearance scored 18 points.
Cameroon also lost their opening game against South Sudan by forfeit due to Covid-19 protocols.
Uganda will end its group D campaign against South Sudan on Sunday. The top team in each group progresses to the quarterfinals while the teams that finish second and third will fight for the remaining four slots in the last eight.
The bottom-placed team in each group will automatically be out of the competition.
