Since the construction of Arua main market began in 2018, the market vendors were relocated to Lobida, Arua hill and social center markets so as to accommodate all the Vendors  however most of the Vendors deferred the directive of the relocation but went to settle along the streets

According to the leader of the enforcement team at the social center Hassan Odama who was chased away by the street vendors, this happened as they tried to push vendors to the gazetted market.

“We have all the times told the street Vendors to move to the Markets but this has landed in deaf ears, but went we tried to push them to the market some resisted and because of their big number they overpowered us and that’s why things went like that”.

What seemed to be frustrating is that one of the employees of the City siding with the Vendors but we are going to raise this in our meeting. Odama added.

But the principal town clerk Arua city Daniel Kawesi condemns the action of the vendors but cautioned those involved shall face the law.

“ We have gazetted market places where we expect the vendors to be though we are still waiting for the main market to complete this doesn’t pave way for the Vendors to sell on the streets. We shall arrest whoever was involved in the act and make sure the actors are brought before the law” Kawesi Said.
