Award winning West Nile Hip Hop act Gbaraspoken moved an inch closer to releasing his fifth studio album dubbed ‘Oyakuya’ which fans have been expecting since last year. The rapper who doubles as a youth activist on Sunday 14th November held an online press briefing via Lulua TV Facebook page hosted by Checkachan Moses of Radio Pacis where he unveiled details regarding the new album.
During the interview, Gbaraspoken admitted that fans had become impatient with him for taking long to put out new music but he believes he needed the time to put out quality content, likening the art to his culture where it is believed that one has to have scars to get where they want to be .The scars may not necessarily be physical but they represent the challenges we experience along any career path. He says the pandemic posed a lot of challenges some of which the industry had never experienced so he had to take time to maneuver his way.
Asked why he chose to name the album ‘Oyakuya’ which means ‘Earthquake’ in Lugbara, the intellectual rapper says the album is meant to shake the world. To him, nobody can predict an earthquake since it takes most by surprise and this is just what the album is meant to do. The African story teller asserts that most of the music on this particular album is about the people, their history, and the future they are likely headed to, hinting on music features with Loveson Controlla, Rappa Blu tit, XBishop, DJ Poppa, Rapgun, O.P.U and others.
The host, Check during the briefing questioned the ‘Aparaka Yo’ hit maker on what has kep him consistent in doing album launches yet many have dropped the habit along the way to which the rapper responded;
The people who listen to my music have never stopped supporting me and as long as the love does not stop, then we will keep doing it. My biggest motivation is myself and the people around the art
Gbaraspoken then went ahead to announce December 11th as the official date for unleashing the album on various music stores. He also added that the album will first be availed through his gbaraspoken music website which has been developed by Truefriends.inc and now ready for use. The rapper further recognized and thanked his partners who have worked tirelessly with him in the different departments of the industry. To note some include: True friends.inc; Made in West Nile entertainment; Lulua TV; Arua Hill soccer club; Arufu records; Hustlers dream; Everlit media; among others. Oyakuya album will be Gbaraspokens’ fifth studio album after Aparaka Yo (2015), Oyokolo The Tape (2016), Six Tears (2017) and Kongolo (2019).
